Thor

In a four-wheel drive van, three scientists named Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgrd), and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) are investigating an aurora-like phenomenon in the New Mexico desert. They move towards the developing huge tornado/lightning storm. They stop after the vehicle runs over a man within the swirl. The gorgeous blond man is well-built and just partially conscious.

A voice-over recounts an encounter between the Asgardians and the Jötuns, the ice giants of Jötunheim, in the year 900 AD. The Asgardians prevail, capture the power casket, and go back to their realm. Speaking to his two sons, Loki, who has dark hair and is more thoughtful, and Thor, who is an active blond kid, is Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Both of them, according to Odin, are deserving, but only one may rule.

Asgard is currently holding a lavish event years later. As of right now, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is acknowledged as the royal prince of Asgard. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) observes with envy. Alarms sound before Odin can declare that the Jotens' power casket has been found; there are intruders in the safe rooms where it is kept. The intruders are killed and the power casket is preserved by a huge destroyer robot. Odin appears unconcerned as he examines the wreckage, while Thor is enraged and ready to fight. Odin prohibits him.

To get to the Bifrost Bridge portal, Thor joins Loki and his close allies Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Fandral (Josh Dallas), Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), and Sif (Jaimie Alexander). The six are sent to Jötunheim, a freezing, crumbling wasteland on the world of the frost giants, after Heimdall (Idris Elba), the gatekeeper, grants them passage. King Laufey (Colm Feore), who is suddenly in front of them, taunts the Asgardian heroes.

The six are surrounded by more frost giants as the conflict begins. Loki uses magic to get by, and when he is touched by a frost giant, he reacts strangely. The Asgardians flee for their life as Laufey unleashes a gigantic beast. Thor defeats the beast, but the team is once more encircled, and the situation appears hopeless. When Odin arrives to save the day, Laufey declares that they have reached a point when diplomacy is pointless because the Frost Giants and Asgard are now at war. Odin apologises to Laufey for the intrusion and makes an effort to restore peace. Odin shoots Laufey away and takes the young group home after he tries to stab him.

Odin releases the four companions and confronts Loki and Thor once they return to the Asgard side of the portal. When Thor drags Asgard back into battle, Odin is enraged and declares him he is unfit to rule. A few seconds later, after stripping him of his power and sending him to Earth, he sends his hammer, Mjolnir, after him, declaring that whoever uses the hammer and is deserving of it will possess Thor's might.

Earth: When Thor becomes overly aggressive, Darcy tazes him, rendering him unconscious. He is placed inside their van by the three scientists, who then drive him to the hospital. As soon as he wakes up, he begins to fight once more, and is eventually tranquillized. Jane is inquisitive about Erik and drawn to him despite Erik's attempts to convince her to leave him alone by calling him a nut.

When they return to the hospital, Thor has already left. They hit the Asgardian man once more, knocking him out, but this time they take him with them as they leave in the van. Jane sends him clothes from her ex-civilian boyfriend's wardrobe. Thor chooses to travel there after overhearing people talking about a satellite crash 50 miles due west, while Erik once more tries to get Jane to leave him alone. Thor roams the town while attempting to purchase a horse from a pet shop. He gets picked up by Jane, who drives him west in the van.

A throng has gathered at the location of the satellite crash, which is actually where Thor's hammer hit the planet; they are partying and attempting to remove the hammer from the crater. Stan Lee makes a surprise appearance as a local man attempting to remove the hammer with his pickup truck. SHIELD government officials take control of the location and seize Jane's computers and study notes. Thor and Jane arrive on the site after dark.

Guards and tents are currently erected around the crater. Jane hides in safety as Thor launches an attack. Thor ultimately gets to the hammer after defeating countless agents, but he is unable to lift it. As SHIELD operatives close in and seize him, he shouts in frustration at his helplessness and slumps to the ground without resisting.

Asgard: Thor's four companions start to wonder if Loki was involved in his exile. Odin acknowledges that Loki was stolen from Jötunheim as a newborn and nurtured as his own, and Loki knows that he is not a true Asgardian. Odin's coma generates confusion and rage in Loki ("Odinsleep"). Loki assumes the role of king.

Earth: While Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is questioning Thor, Loki enters the room after he temporarily leaves him alone. Thor is informed by Loki that Odin has passed away and cannot return to Asgard. Thor is inconsolable. Erik shows in to inform the SHIELD agents that Thor is Jane's ex-husband and is steroid-affected. He has fabricated a driver's license in some way.

Erik is given permission by Coulson to take Thor, who sneakily takes Jane's notebook with him. Erik takes Thor out for a drink back in town, where they bond over boilermakers. Erik is brought to Jane's trailer by Thor. Thor describes the nine realms and the Bifrost Bridge to Jane as they head to a rooftop to view the stars. Jane surmises that the structure is a wormhole similar to the Einstein-Rosen Bridge.

Loki freezes Heimdall in Asgard before meeting Laufey. Loki was the one who earlier allowed the frost giants access to Asgard in an effort to recover the power casket. He strikes a deal with Laufey, promising to let them back into Asgard so they can slay Odin and take their casket in exchange for them returning home in peace. The Destroyer is instructed by Loki to assassinate Thor on Earth.

Earth: The Destroyer appears in the desert of New Mexico and begins firing heat rays at everything. The three scientists and Thor make an effort to safely evacuate everyone. Thor challenges the Destroyer and offers Loki himself in exchange for him to leave the people alone. Loki is able to see and hear what is happening in Asgard. Thor receives a brutal backhand slap from the Destroyer, which sends him sprawling and seemingly dead. Jane cries as she rushes to the body.

The Mjolnir, which emerges from the crater and returns to Thor's hand, is proof that he is worthy to once again wield it after his selfless act of defending his friends. He regains his health and vitality, and his red cloak and armour are once more put on. With Jane's assurance, he effortlessly destroys the Destroyer and makes an attempt to return to Asgard.

Through the portal, the ice giants enter Asgard and pass by the frozen Heimdall. When Laufey enters Odin's bedchamber to kill the Norse god, Loki kills him to give the impression that he is the hero. Heimdall is cognizant while being frozen and frees himself. He returns Thor to Asgard. To combat the ice giants, Thor flies rapidly.

Loki activates the Bifrost Portal at the ice planet Jötunheim's destruction. The two start fighting as Thor tries to stop him. With Mjolnir, Thor immobilises Loki and begins to bash away at the bridge as he attempts to stop the process by destroying the portal. The two brothers fall into space as everything collapses, but Odin is there to save them and is holding Thor, who is holding Loki's staff. Loki concedes defeat and permits himself to tumble down the Bifrost Bridge and into the Void.

On Asgard, everything appears to be back to normal, despite Odin's disappointment at the outcome. Though Heimdall assures him that Jane is looking for him, Thor longs for Jane. Jane is in a fresh lab with fresh tools when she returns to Earth.

Immediately following the credits, Selvig is brought to a SHIELD facility where he meets Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). When Fury shows him something in a briefcase, he claims that it might be a limitless source of power. Then, Loki materialises before Selvig and Fury, invisible to them, and says, "Well, I think that's worth a look," which Selvig then repeats.
