Avengers: Infinity War
Thor's Asgardian spacecraft has been attacked by Thanos and his Children, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, and Cull Obsidian, who are on the hunt for the Space Stone, which is kept inside the Tesseract that Loki stole prior to Asgard's destruction. Thanos' army easily disposes of the Asgardians because it already has the Power Stone thanks to his destruction of Xandar.
Following the Hulk's fruitless counterattack, Loki offers the Tesseract to Thanos in return for saving Thor, only to be killed by Thanos when he foresees Loki's plan to betray and kill him. Heimdall sends the Hulk to Earth with the help of the Bifrost just before Glaive kills him. Then, shortly after using the Power stone to destroy the spacecraft, Thanos and his Children fly away, leaving a grieving Thor adrift in space.
Stephen Strange and Wong are informed of the impending arrival of Thanos by Bruce Banner when the Hulk crash-lands at the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York City. Tony Stark is contacted by Strange and Banner, who inform him about the Infinity Stones and Thanos. Stark understands he must speak with Steve Rogers in order to locate Vision, who has gone off the grid with Wanda Maximoff, in order to protect the Mind Stone implanted in his mind.
Stark, Strange, Wong, and Peter Parker meet Maw and Obsidian when they arrive in New York to take Strange's Time Stone. Banner is unable to become the Hulk and participate in the conflict because he was traumatised by his defeat at the hands of Thanos. Strange is rendered unconscious and captured by Maw, and while Parker and Stark follow Strange's spacecraft away from Earth, Wong stays behind to guard the Sanctorum. Banner gets in touch with the other Avengers.
The two are attacked by Midnight and Glaive in Scotland, where Wanda Maximoff and Vision have been hiding, but Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Sam Wilson successfully repel them. They make the decision to seek refuge in the Avengers Facility in Upstate New York, where they run with James Rhodes, who has bionic leg braces that have allowed him to regain mobility. To prevent Thanos from obtaining the Stone in his forehead, Vision suggests that Maximoff destroy it. Rogers advises that they go to Wakanda, the only place with the technology to properly extract the stone from Vision without killing him, but Wanda rejects the idea right once.
The Guardians of the Galaxy, who responded to the Asgardian ship's distress signal, save Thor. Thor believes that Thanos's next target will be the Reality Stone, which is in the Collector's possession in Knowhere. However, before he can kill Thanos, Thor needs to be defeated, so Thor must first travel to the dwarf planet of Nidavellir, where the only forge that can produce such a weapon is located. Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, and Mantis are instructed to proceed to Knowhere while Rocket is ordered to accompany Thor to Nidavellir. Gamora talks to Quill on the way there and commands him to kill her if the need arises. Quill hesitantly promises he will.
After obtaining the Reality Stone and faking an intact Knowhere to ensnare the Guardians, Thanos ambushes them in Knowhere. During a key exchange in which Gamora asks Quill to murder her and uses the Space Stone to flee, he manages to apprehend her. After extracting information from a tormented Nebula, Thanos reveals that he is aware that Gamora already knows where the Soul Stone is. On Titan, Thanos' home world, Nebula signals for the surviving Guardians to meet her.
The Soul Stone is located on the planet Vormir. When Thanos and Gamora arrive there, the Red Skull, who is in charge of looking after the Stone, warns him that doing so will cost him someone he genuinely loves in order to get the Stone back. Gamora is cruelly thrown off a high cliff to her death by Thanos, who reluctantly accepts the Soul Stone in exchange.
Stark and Parker kill Maw by launching him out of the ship after rescuing Strange from Maw's torture chamber. Stark disagrees with Strange and thinks they should confront Thanos directly rather than fleeing like they have in the past in order to protect the Time Stone. After meeting Quill, Drax, and Mantis on Titan, where they will face Thanos, the three decide how to take off his gauntlet. Strange tells them he has seen 14,000,605 different possibilities, with just one where the Avengers triumph, while using the Time Stone to explore alternative timelines as they are discussing their strategies.
When Thanos teleports to Titan, the team engages him in hand-to-hand combat and eventually manages to take him down after a brief talk with Strange intended to divert him. While Peter and Tony try to remove the gauntlet from Thanos' arm, Mantis manages to calm him down. After learning that Gamora is dead from Quill and Nebula, who had arrived on Titan during the conflict, Quill retaliates by striking Thanos and releasing the group's grasp on him. After defeating the group and taking the gauntlet back, Thanos threatens to kill Stark unless Strange gives him the Time Stone. After doing so, Strange informs Tony that they have "reached the end game." After affixing the stone to his gauntlet, Thanos leaves Titan.
At a deserted and barren Nidavellir, Thor, Rocket, and Groot arrive. Thor is perplexed by the gigantic forge's lack of activity. Eitri, a huge dwarve, explains to the humans that Thanos slaughtered all the dwarves save for Eitri in exchange for forcing them to make his gauntlet. Thor's new weapon, Stormbreaker, is made by the four after they labour to restart the forge and the neutron star that powers it. It also gives Thor the power of the Bifrost. While everything is going on, the Avengers land in Wakanda and give Shuri the job of carefully removing the Mind Stone from Vision.
The Avengers and the united Wakandan soldiers under King T'Challa stage a defence against Thanos' forces as the Outrider army of the villainous Thanos attacks Wakanda. Glaive breaks inside Shuri's laboratory and assaults Vision. Before Thor, Rocket, and Groot arrive to join the fight, the Outriders start destroying the defending forces. Midnight, Obsidian, and Glaive are murdered, and it appears like things are going in the Avengers' favour; nevertheless, Thanos shows there to take the Mind Stone. In an effort to stop Thanos from obtaining the Mind Stone, a grieving Maximoff destroys the Mind Stone that is still inserted in Vision. However, Thanos uses the Time Stone to reverse the action and remove the Mind Stone from Vision, killing Maximoff once more.
Thor attacks and rams Stormbreaker into Thanos' chest, but the latter manages to survive long enough for the gauntlet to snap his fingers. He discovers Gamora as a young child on a distant world. She queries him about the price after he replies that his objective was accomplished. He responds, "Anything." Meanwhile on Earth, Thor watches in horror as Thanos teleports away, his left arm and part of his chest scorched, his gauntlet now scarred from the struggle.
As people start to disappear, Thanos' plan to wipe out half of all life in the universe is realised: Bucky Barnes, T'Challa, Groot, Maximoff, Wilson, Mantis, Drax, Star Lord, Strange, & Parker all turn to ash, and vanish. The only heroes still alive in Wakanda are Rogers, Thor, Banner, Romanoff, James Rhodes, Rocket, Okoye, and M'Baku. Only Nebula and Stark remain alive on Titan. Thanos wakes up on another beautiful, green planet with his chest wound healed. Certain that he has accomplished his ultimate aim, he calmly observes the sunset while smiling a little.
The World is in disarray as people start turning into ash in a post-credits sequence. Driverless automobiles are seen smashing on the road, while a helicopter is seen slamming into a skyscraper and exploding. Before they dissolve themselves, former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury and deputy director Maria Hill observe the scene on the street. Fury is able to send Captain Marvel one last distress signal before he disappears.
