Deep Water ( 2022 )
Deep Water is a 2022 erotic psychological thriller film directed by Adrian Lyne,[3] based on Patricia Highsmith's 1957 novel of the same name, with Zach Helm and Sam Levinson writing the screenplay. Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas lead in the picture, which also has Tracy Letts, Lil Rel Howery, Dash Mihok, Finn Wittrock, Kristen Connolly, Jacob Elordi, and Rachel Blanchard in supporting parts. Lyne's return to filmmaking comes after a 20-year hiatus since his last feature, Unfaithful (2002).
It is also Hasbro's first erotic picture following the acquisition of Entertainment One on December 30, 2019. It is Disney's first erotic film in 28 years since Color of Night (not counting those from Miramax Films before 2010, nor those inherited from the 20th Century Fox archive).
Following multiple delays due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Deep Water was finally broadcast on Hulu on March 18, 2022. Critics had conflicting feelings about it.
Plot
Vic and Melinda Van Allen live in the little hamlet of Little Wesley, Louisiana, with their daughter. Their loveless marriage is held together only by a tenuous arrangement in which Melinda is allowed to have any number of partners as long as she does not abandon her family in order to avoid the messiness of divorce. Vic informs one of her lovers that her former partner was slain by him.
The narrative spreads across their social circle, prompting the lover to withdraw and generating doubts about the story's veracity. Vic's next lover drowns at a party Melinda is attending, and Vic kills Melinda's next boyfriend, Tony, and throws his body into a creek. Vic is seen with Tony's body by Don Wilson, who has been suspicious of Vic, but Don is killed as he carelessly drives his car with Vic after him. Vic's knowledge of Tony's whereabouts is confirmed when Melinda discovers Tony's wallet with his identification in one of Vic's snail aquariums. Melinda burns Tony's identity, implying that she plans to accompany Vic home.
