Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2

A superhero movie from 2017 called "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is based on the same-named superhero team from Marvel Comics. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel are among the ensemble cast members in James Gunn's film, which also stars Vin Diesel.

As the Guardians of the Galaxy investigate Peter Quill's paternity, the story follows their exploits. The Guardians are working together as a team to defend the galaxy from numerous threats when the tale begins up a few months after the events of the previous film.

The Guardians are seen in the beginning of the film battling a huge monster on a planet. Ayesha, the head of the Sovereign, a strong species created through genetic engineering, approaches the group after the battle. She offers Gamora's estranged sister Nebula in return for the Guardians' services in defending priceless batteries from an interdimensional monster.

Peter Quill, commonly known as Star-Lord, is currently having identity issues as a result of discovering that his father is a potent Celestial by the name of Ego. The Guardians visit the planet of Ego, where they meet his servant Mantis and discover that Ego is a god-like being who created the world and has been looking for Peter for a long time.

The Guardians start to worry that something is wrong as they spend more time on the planet. While Gamora and Drax find a cave with dozens of Ego's children, whom he fathered across the cosmos before killing them because they lacked his Celestial powers, Rocket and Groot kidnap Nebula. In the meantime, Ego reveals his true strategy: using Peter's ability to reshape the cosmos in his own likeness.

A fierce battle follows from the Guardians banding together to thwart Ego's scheme. Yondu, who had been betrayed by the Ravagers and exiled, saves Peter during the battle and gives his life to destroy Ego's core in order to save Peter. Following Yondu's funeral, the Guardians decide to remain as a unit.

In the end, the Guardians of the Galaxy understand that their actual power comes from their connection and camaraderie as a team, and they make a commitment to keep defending the galaxy from danger. The Guardians jump to light speed at the conclusion of the film while they listen to Peter's just-acquired mixtape, signaling the beginning of a new journey.

Full Synopsis

Missouri, 1980's Planet Earth

Laura Haddock's character, Meredith Quill, is in a car with Kurt Russell, whom she refers to as her "spaceman," and they are both listening to music on the radio. The man shows Meredith a little alien seedling that he claims would soon be found everywhere as they sneak past a Dairy Queen and dash into the woods. Then he gives Meredith a kiss.

After 34 years.

The Guardians of the Galaxy, including Chris Pratt's Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Dave Bautista's Drax, Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel's Baby Groot, are on a platform as they attempt to wrest Anulax Batteries from their most recent employers, the Sovereigns. The Guardians are prepared to fight the Abilisk, an interdimensional beast, and have their weapons at the ready.

With the exception of Groot, who is grooving out to "Mr. Blue Sky" on a speaker that Rocket rigged up, the Guardians immediately rush into action as the Abilisk descends, aiming to destroy it. To Groot's dismay, Drax ultimately crashes upon the speaker. Drax attempts to kill the Abilisk from within by allowing it to consume him because they are unable to hurt the Abilisk from the outside. Rocket is instructed by Star-Lord to persuade the creature to look up after he finds a cut on its neck. The Abilisk is subsequently killed by a downward slice from Gamora, allowing Drax to escape through the gap.

The Guardians visit the Sovereigns with the batteries and Ayesha, their High Priestess (Elizabeth Debicki). The Sovereigns give the Guardians Gamora's sister Nebula (Karen Gillan) in return for the batteries so they may transport her to Xandar and claim the reward on her behalf. Before they go, Ayesha talks down to the Guardians, focusing on Peter in particular, claiming that his background as a hybrid of humans and aliens makes him reckless. Rocket steals some of the batteries for himself as the Guardians depart.

The Guardians are unexpectedly surprised by a fleet of Sovereign drones on their route to the planet Xandar, and they are all pursuing them in search of the stolen batteries. The others believe Rocket was responsible for their disappearance, and they are all furious. Rocket tries to guide the Milano towards a wormhole that would take them to another planet as the drones begin attacking. Another ship passes over in the distance and begins to annihilate the Sovereign drones. On his ship, a man can be seen standing and waving to the Guardians. The Guardians must crash-land on a nearby planet in order to escape the drones.

The second ship that saved them descends as the Guardians survey the remains of their ship. Ego emerges and admits that he is Peter's father. His empathic assistant Mantis is with him (Pom Klementieff).

Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker) and his Ravagers team are struggling on a different planet. He is residing in a local hotel (where Howard The Duck is also in attendance). Yondu runs across Stakar Ogord (Sylvester Stallone), an old friend who expelled him from the Ravager team due to his involvement in child trafficking. Taserface (Chris Sullivan) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn) are two of the Ravagers that feel that Yondu should step down as commander and that the Ravagers need a new leader. Yondu ends his conversation with Stakar before the Sovereigns show up and Ayesha approaches him with an offer.

Peter is still in disbelief that he will soon meet his father. Ego adds that after Peter's mother passed away, he dispatched Yondu to take him up. Peter continues to be perplexed as to why Ego initially abandoned Meredith. He extends an invitation to Peter and his pals to visit his world. At first, Gamora struggles to persuade Peter to go with his father. While Rocket and Groot stay behind to mend the Milano and keep a watch on Nebula, Peter, Gamora, and Drax accompany Ego and Mantis.

The three speak with Mantis on Ego's ship, and she demonstrates her abilities by penetrating their brains. She informs everyone that Peter has affection for Gamora on a sexual level, which Drax finds amusing.

The forests where the Guardians crashed-landed are encountered by the Ravagers. The majority of them fall victim to Rocket's set traps before Yondu arrives with his Yaka Arrow, which he controls by whistling. Rocket and Groot are captured by the Ravagers, but Yondu is less eager to hand over Peter when Taserface wants to capture him. Then Nebula knocks Yondu out by breaking the crest on his head. She joins the Ravagers in their capture of Rocket, Groot, and Yondu.

Because Ego is a Celestial and his consciousness is the foundation of the globe, everyone is attracted to the world through him. He explains to the three that in order to travel the galaxy, he created a human form. He then came to Earth and fell in love with Meredith, but he was unable to see her frequently because doing so would consume a lot of his energy. Peter is still angry at Ego for allowing Meredith to die on her own. As Peter's emotions intensify, his hands emit strong energy that is connected to Ego's own power. His ego teaches him how to manage and harness it.

Kraglin on the Ravager ship merely observes in shock as his companions are slain as Taserface and his henchmen begin ejecting those who are still loyal to Yondu. Rocket only makes fun of Taserface when he brags about his excellence and "fearful" name. Nebula comes in and advises the Ravagers to turn over their hostages to the Kree in exchange for the rewards on their heads. She also asks for other things, like a new hand. She utilises the ship Kraglin brings her to in order to leave the Ravager ship and go look for Gamora.

Although Drax keeps reminding Mantis that he finds her repulsive, he says it's a good thing because he believes he is repulsive too and still found someone who accepted him for who he is. Mantis and Drax develop a bond. When Gamora interrupts Mantis' attempt to tell Drax something crucial, Mantis remains silent and simply leads the two characters to their apartments.

Rocket and Yondu are imprisoned by the Ravagers, who also abduct Groot for their own amusement. Yondu talks about how Stakar took him out of the Kree war slave system and turned him into a Ravager. Yondu claims that the reason he kept Peter around, in response to Rocket's inquiry, was that he was small enough to squeeze into places the others couldn't. The two decide to cooperate in order to escape from the place. Yondu instructs Groot to obtain a prototype fin for his head when they bring him over. After delivering a lot of incorrect stuff, Yondu uses his fin to free Rocket and himself.

Rocket and Groot join in on some Ravager ass-kicking as Yondu launches the arrow into every mutinous Ravager they come across. Kraglin joins the three as they board an escape spacecraft, but not before Yondu causes the ship to explode. Despite being burned, Taserface is able to alert Ayesha to Yondu's whereabouts before he sinks with the ship. 700 jumps are required for the other four to reach Ego's planet.

Peter tries to seduce Gamora with his dance routines back on Ego's world, but it doesn't quite succeed because she can't bring herself to admit her own attraction to him. Gamora observes Nebula approaching her ship and firing at her after she departs. Nebula leaps out of the plane as it crashes and begins to battle Gamora. Nebula defeats Gamora and admits she never intended to show she was superior to her; rather, all she wanted was a true sister. Because of Gamora's prowess as a fighter, their father Thanos had to mutilate Nebula, which made her hate Gamora. The two then decide to work together after discovering a cavern with roughly 100 skeletons.

Ego and Peter are still close. Ego assures Peter that he will remain immortal and keep his abilities for as long as there is light on the earth. Mantis observes that now that Peter is aware of his own abilities, Ego has him firmly in his grasp. She hastily awakens Drax and informs him that Ego's true motivations are now obvious.

Yondu, Kraglin, Rocket, Groot, and their final destination have reached. Rocket begins to brag that he wants to save Peter only to outdo him and hold it over his head, but Yondu stops him by pointing out how afraid Rocket truly is and how he only pretends to be tough. Then they left to confront Ego.

Peter is informed by Ego that he desires to create "The Expansion." He travelled to thousands of other worlds throughout the cosmos to plant seeds that would grow into plants that would blanket the planets and extend his control over the galaxy. Yondu gave birth to a large number of the children he fathered through his relationships with women from various worlds, but Ego slaughtered them all because they lacked Celestial might. Gamora and Nebula discovered their bones as a result. The power that Ego was seeking just so happens to be in Peter.

Ego also discloses that he implanted the tumour that killed Meredith so he would not experience the sorrow of being apart from her. In a fit of rage, Peter breaks out of it and starts firing on Ego. In reaction, Peter is taken by Ego, who then uses him to disseminate the seedlings over the worlds and wreak havoc. Peter's Walkman and the Awesome Mix Volume 2 that his mother gave him are crushed by Ego as a final insult.

As they prepare to stop Ego, Rocket, Groot, and Yondu meet up with Gamora, Drax, Nebula, and Mantis. A fleet of Sovereigns is unfortunately waiting for them with the intention of killing them as well. Ego's full planet self fights back while Peter struggles with his human body. While the Guardians tend to the others, Mantis can put Ego to sleep. They retaliate against the Sovereigns and ultimately use a lot of lasers to annihilate their entire fleet.

Rocket steals batteries to make a bomb, which Groot steals and flees with despite Rocket's warning that if he presses the wrong button, they will all perish. A fireball knocks Mantis unconscious, releasing her control on Ego and reawakening him. Ego starts to overtake the others as they make an effort to find safety. Peter keeps utilising his celestial abilities to battle his father. After being set free, Groot searches the planet's centre for Ego's brain and sets the bomb to detonate in five minutes.

While Gamora and Nebula return to the ship, Drax transports Mantis there. Rocket, who is aware that he cannot save both Yondu and Peter, offers Yondu his last spacesuit. Rocket prevents Gamora from turning around so he won't lose any more friends.

Ego begs Peter to stop the bomb or else he will become a regular person. Peter allows the device to detonate since he sees nothing wrong with that. Ego's human form disintegrates as the world as a whole begins to combust. As Yondu flies by, he snatches Peter. Yondu places the suit on Peter to protect him as they depart the planet's atmosphere. While Ego was his father, he claims to never have been Peter's father. Peter lamentsably witnesses Yondu's death as he then begins to freeze in space.

The Guardians are ready to give Yondu a befitting funeral fit for a Ravager. Yondu had been intending to gift Peter a Zune for a while, but Kraglin gives him one to make up for his lost Walkman. Peter gives Kraglin Yondu's arrow in exchange because he believes Yondu would have preferred for him to use it. Nebula makes up with Gamora before departing on her own hunt for Thanos. Mantis makes the decision to remain with the Guardians. The Guardians witness scores of additional Ravager ships coming to pay their respects to Yondu as his body is sent off into space.

The following five scenes appear during the end credits:

Kraglin attempts to hone his arrow-firing skills. He ends up giving it to Drax because he can't quite get the hang of it. Stakar creates his own team with Martinex T'Naga (Michael Rosenbaum), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Starhawk (Michelle Yeoh), and Mainframe in remembrance of Yondu's sacrifice (Miley Cyrus).

Ayesha and a different Sovereign talk about their new strategy for eliminating the Guardians. As she waits to release whatever is within the birthing pod to use against the Guardians, Ayesha is visible sitting near it. She chooses the name "Adam" for it (as in, Adam Warlock).

Now a teenager, Groot. When Peter reprimands him for leaving his roots laying around, Groot just laughs at him and continues to play video games.

The Watchers get tired and leave the old Stan Lee, who is making his customary cameo, as they are talking about his prior exploits.
