Captain America: Civil War

When a car crashes in 1991, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), the Winter Soldier who has been brainwashed, finds bags of a serum that turns humans into super soldiers.

Thor and the Hulk are nowhere to be discovered after the Avengers destroyed Ultron. Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye has returned home to be with his family. Even Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) appears to have stopped participating. A new group of Avengers, led by Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), also includes Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle), and Falcon (Anthony Mackie). However, the numerous civilian deaths caused by the Avengers' earlier missions are still fresh in people's minds.

The crew is keeping tabs on Brock Rumlow (Frank Grillo), a Hydra agent who had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. until Captain America revealed him, in Lagos, Nigeria. Brock managed to survive the ensuing collision while aboard one of the three Helicarriers that Cap had caused to engage in gunfire over the Triskelion in Washington, DC. He was severely burned during the incident and now goes by the name Crossbones and wears a skull mask. Crossbones and his group of mercenaries in Lagos ram a garbage truck into the Institute for Infectious Disease building and use smoke bombs to eliminate the security personnel.

Crossbones smashes the lab's glass by using hydraulic gauntlets, which give him tremendous strength. He takes out a vial that contains a dangerous, contagious infection. Crossbones and the other guys flee on a truck after some of the mercenaries are eliminated by Cap's troops. The truck gets disabled following a chase. Crossbones instructs his troops to disperse as he hands one of them the vial. He then confronts Cap, pummeling him repeatedly with increased power as the rest of the crew pursues the mercenaries.

Black Widow is able to retrieve the vial before it hits the ground after Falcon locates the person holding it and shoots him. Crossbones is pinned against the wall by Cap when he obtains the upper hand. He is informed by Crossbones that Bucky Barnes is aware of him. Crossbones activates a bomb on his vest by pressing a button when Cap is briefly preoccupied. Scarlet Witch is able to control the explosion's force while Cap braces himself.

She utilises her talents to lift it into the air, but she can only do so for a short time before losing control. As a result, the seventh floor of a nearby hotel is severely damaged in the explosion. Cap runs into the building to assist with the evacuation after calling for fire and rescue. Wanda sobs as she surveys the damage, repentant over her foolish acts.

A holographic movie of Tony Stark and his parents, Howard (John Slattery) and Maria, is being shown in a theatre inside Tony Stark's former college. At the conclusion, Tony informs the students that the Howard and Maria Stark Foundation is being established and that each of them has been given a research grant. He is confronted by a woman in a hallway who holds up a photograph of her son, who was killed in Sokovia after being crushed by a building that the Avengers had destroyed.

The squad is watching news video of the Lagos expedition at the Avengers' corporate headquarters. According to the reporter, eleven individuals died in the hotel. Steve claims that he let his guard down, and as a result, individuals lost their lives. Steve is informed by Vision that Tony has arrived and has invited the Secretary of State, General Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt). After participating in the experiment that transformed Bruce Banner into the Hulk, Ross spent years looking for him. Ross informs them that although some see them as heroes, others view them as vigilantes.

He emphasises the Sokovia incident by displaying images of the devastation that accompanies the squad everywhere they go. He places a large document on the table and identifies it as the Sokovia Accords, which 117 nations have ratified. According to the agreements, the Avengers will function under the direction of a panel and only take action when the panel deems it necessary. He claims that if they don't sign up for a conference in Vienna in three days, they'll have to leave.

Tony shows everyone a picture of the youngster who was killed in Sokovia as the team debates the accords for hours. Steve queries what will transpire if the panel forbids them from go somewhere they must. If they don't accept it now, Tony responds, it will be forced upon them later. When it becomes clear that there is no way forward, Steve storms off in disgust. He receives word that Peggy Carter has passed away and travels to London to attend her funeral.

During her eulogy at the burial service, SHIELD Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp) reveals that she is Sharon Carter's niece. After the service, she and Steve enjoy a moment in which it is implied that they are emotionally attracted to one another but must maintain their friendship as a business relationship. The following day, Natasha runs into Steve and informs him that all but Clint and Wanda had agreed to participate: herself, Tony, James Rhodes, and Vision.

Several heads of state have assembled in Vienna to ratify the agreements. Natasha meets King T'Chaka and T'Challa, the prince of Wakanda (Chadwick Boseman) (John Kani). Vibranium, the substance used to create Captain America's shield, had become widely available in Wakanda as a result of a meteorite collision. In addition, some of the victims in Lagos were Wakandans. As King T'Chaka steps up to the podium to deliver the keynote speech, Natasha notices security guards around a van that is parked nearby. The king is killed in the building by an explosion.

When a news report about the carnage in Vienna comes in, Steve is sitting in a hotel room with Sam and Sharon Carter back in the United States. Steve recognises Bucky in the security camera that reveals the bomb's bomber. When Sharon receives a text, she informs Steve that she must leave for business and boards a military jet for Vienna. Natasha notices numerous injured people as she turns to look around. Picking up a printed picture of Bucky getting out of the bomb-laden van, Prince T'Challa examines it. When Natasha phones Steve, he informs her that Bucky must be brought in by him.

He hangs up and turns to face the ruined structure after travelling to Vienna. When Sharon recognises him, she gives him a file so he may begin the manhunt before the German military task force GSG9, which has been given the order to shoot to kill.

When Bucky picks up a newspaper in Bucharest, he discovers that he is being charged with the explosion in Vienna. He understands that he must depart right away. When Steve visits Bucky's apartment, he is there. The two repel the GSG9 while Bucky uses Captain America's shield to deflect their gunfire. He leaps to the ground and runs into the Black Panther, who uses his fists and metal claws to scratch his armour. Cap descends and lands next to them as the GSG9 opens fire on all three of them.

While Cap and Bucky flee for cover, the Black Panther remains motionless, allowing the bullets to strike him and miss him completely. Black Panther is pursuing Bucky through the streets while Cap and Falcon follow the Panther. While the Panther jumps from the top of one automobile to the next, steadily closing in on Bucky, Cap commandeers a GSG9 SUV. After knocking a man off his motorcycle, Bucky climbs on his own motorcycle, revs the engine, and drives into a tunnel. Black Panther is still persistently pursuing.

The Panther hops onto the roof of the SUV and then the rear of Bucky's motorcycle as Cap drives the SUV close to it. The Panther is knocked off by Bucky's swing backward, but he grabs onto the side of the SUV and hangs on. When Bucky turns to face the future, he sees Falcon coming straight at him. He applies the brakes, reverses the direction of the motorcycle, and passes the SUV again. Cap puts it in reverse in an effort to catch up to Bucky. The Panther leaps into the air and lands on the wings of the Falcon.

Bucky picks up a metal ball and launches it at the tunnel's roof. A hole is created in the concrete when it explodes. The Panther was thrown off by the Falcon as he used his wings to cover himself and escape the blast uninjured. Bucky loses control of his bike as he swerves to escape an automobile. As the Panther leaps on him, he attacks with his claws.

When Cap fights the Panther, the Panther's claws rip gashes in Cap's shield as they trade blows. The GSG9 surrounds everyone and orders them to put their hands up as War Machine soars through the gap. As they are all being held in custody, Black Panther takes off his mask to show that he is Prince T'Challa of Wakanda.

Cap informs the prince that he has the wrong man on the way to the task force's headquarters in Berlin. Cap, Falcon, and the prince exit, and Bucky is placed in a cage in a different truck. The chief of the headquarters, Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), greets them. The men's weapons are taken away before being led inside the structure, where Black Widow is waiting for them. Prince T'Challa is escorted into a room by Everett while the others are led to a different room by Tony, who informs them that Secretary Ross intends to have them all prosecuted. They won't get the shield and wings back because they are now government property, according to Tony.

T'Challa uses his power to secure Bucky's extradition to Wakanda, where he will be prosecuted for terrorism-related offences. To ascertain Bucky's mental health, an assessment is conducted. Cap is still with Tony and is observing what is happening. Tony informs him that if he signs the accords right away, Bucky won't be sent to a Wakandan prison but rather an American mental hospital. Steve concurs, but only provided security measures are taken. Tony smiles and informs Steve that he and Wanda will be given their positions back.

When Steve inquires as to what he is referring to regarding Wanda, he replies that she is being held captive in the Avengers' base in upstate New York, under the watchful eye of Vision. Given that she is not an American citizen and a visa will not be granted, Tony claims that this is the best he can offer. She is only a child, according to Steve, and doesn't deserve to be locked up. He goes without ratifying the agreements.

Hawkeye enters the place where Vision is imprisoning Scarlet Witch. Despite his attacks, he is unable to harm or control Vision. Scarlet Witch forces Vision through the floor and down several stories with her abilities, allowing her and Hawkeye to flee.

After killing a Hydra spy and finding a book with a list of words that may cause Bucky to return to his brainwashed state, Colonel Zemo (Daniel Brühl), poses as the doctor who will examine Bucky and reads the list while infiltrating the base. Recognizing the trigger list but unable to stop Zemo, Bucky struggles to escape his confinement while facing up against Stark, Cap, Natasha, and T'Challa. He attempts to flee in a helicopter from the roof, but Rogers stops him, causing the helicopter to crash into the river.

He saves his pal and brings him to a secure location where Sam Wilson and he clamp Bucky's cybernetic arm in a machine press. When Bucky regains consciousness, he informs Steve that Zemo is travelling to Siberia, where a number of more super warriors are lying in wait for someone to awaken them and assign them a mission.

To stop Zemo, Captain America assembles a team that includes Bucky, Falcon, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). They all become into renegades by acting independently of the rules. To arrest the others, Iron Man assembles his own team, which consists of War Machine, Black Panther, Black Widow, Vision, and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). At Leipzig, Germany's airport, two teams come together. Cap's scheme entails snatching the Quinjet that some of the opposing team's members arrived in. Stark makes an attempt to convince Rogers but is unsuccessful, and a fierce conflict ensues. Stark commands Peter Parker to keep his distance and grapple anybody he can with his webbing. Black Panther wants to take Bucky prisoner.

Ant-Man grows to an 80-foot height to divert Stark's troops and enable Cap and Bucky time to board the Quinjet and flee to the hangar. Cap and Bucky are able to take off in the Quinjet when Black Widow, who first seems determined to stop them, turns on Black Panther instead.

Falcon pursues War Machine as he tries to stop them from fleeing. War Machine falls from the sky and strikes the ground before Falcon or Stark can reach him after Tony commands Vision to stop Falcon. Vision fires an energy beam from the Mind Stone, which Falcon avoids and hits instead, breaking his armor's functions. Rhodes is found to be barely alive by Stark. Falcon tries to show his sorrow, but Tony uses a repulsor blast to take him down.

Iron Man visits The Raft, an isolated Arctic prison facility where the other members of Cap's squad are detained under Secretary Ross's supervision, after discovering proof that Bucky was set up for the Vienna explosion. Tony is able to momentarily disable the facility's audio surveillance system for long enough to demonstrate to Sam that Rogers was correct and that Zemo had murdered the psychiatrist who was supposed to assess Bucky. Sam Wilson is able to tell him where Rogers and Bucky went. Tony hops on his private jet and slips into his Iron Man suit before taking off for Siberia to meet with Cap and Bucky and settle their differences.

When Tony eventually locates Bucky and Capt, they discover that the super troops have already been slain. Zemo, who has been hiding behind impenetrable glass, then confesses that his true goal was to locate film of the Winter Soldier's initial mission. Black Panther had been following them covertly when he overhears Zemo take ownership of the blast. Zemo plays them a videotape that depicts Bucky instigating the automobile accident and then brutally killing Howard and Maria Stark inside.

Attacking both Cap and Bucky out of rage, Iron Man demands to know if Steve was aware of what had transpired. Steve admits that all he knew was that Hydra was responsible for the assassination of his parents. As they struggle, Iron Man blows Bucky's metal arm off. Tony's arc reactor is eventually shut off by Cap, rendering his suit ineffective. He is told by Tony that he is unworthy of using the shield that Steve's father gave him. After dropping it, Steve and Bucky walk away.

Zemo is discovered by Panther sitting outdoors with a gun in his hand, looking at a picture. He claims to Black Panther that his family was murdered in Sokovia and that he would not relent until the Avengers were completely destroyed. After being successful, Zemo attempts to shoot himself with the pistol, but Black Panther stops the bullet with his hand over the barrel and captures Zemo to be tried for his crimes.

Rhodes is receiving robotic leg braces from Tony as part of his recuperation from paralysis. He receives a package from Rogers, the FedEx delivery man (a cameo by Stan Lee), who pronounces his name incorrectly as "Tony Stank," much to the amusement of Rhodey, who is recovering, and which includes a flip-model cell phone and a note advising Tony to call Steve in case the world faces any fresh threats. Steve frees the heroes in the Raft, and they travel to Wakanda where T'Challa grants them shelter.

In order to prevent further manipulation, Bucky chooses to be put back into cryogenic sleep until they can figure out how to reverse his brainwashing. Peter Parker tries out a new version of the web shooter Tony gave him as he is recovering from his wounds at home. He tells May that he got into a fight at school with a man named "Steve." It displays the Spidey signal onto the ceiling, much to his fascination.
